GREAT Food Hall showcases the Best of British Food in Hong Kong (28/10/2009)
GREAT is running from now until 12 November the British Food Festival in their Food Hall in the Basement of Two Pacific Place. The Festival is introducing a wide range of new gourmet British food items to the Hong Kong market, making it one of the largest food festivals of its kind in Hong Kong.
There is something for everyone and plenty of opportunities to sample some of the delicious food and drink produced in the UK.
Some examples of the delicacies available to sample include Scottish beef, London cure smoked salmon, potted shrimp and lobster, pork pies, cheese and other dairy products, fruit juices, pasta, muesli, cakes and organic produce. Beautifully presented and wonderfully indulgent, the food festival is the perfect place to shop.
With over 200 new food and drink items offering everything everyone might need for a groaning festive table, the British Food Festival is well worth a visit. Shoppers will find inspiration for family meals, dinner parties and picnics from the mountains of UK food and drink on display.
British Deputy Consul-General and Director of Trade and Investment Iain Lindsay was one of the guests of honour at the launch of the Festival. He said: "The UK Food and Drink industry - from primary production and manufacturing through to retail and food service - is respected throughout the world for its excellence, high standards and innovation. Well-known UK brands can be found worldwide, and the strength of the UK industry in producing supermarket own-label products is recognised by the world's leading retailers. For example here in Hong Kong Great and other Park n Shop stores sell products from the UK supermarket chain Waitrose, recently voted the UK's favourite supermarket in a BBC survey. Also, it is good to see UK fresh meat among the products being promoted, in particular, excellent British beef back on Hong Kong supermarket shelves."
Major focuses of fresh items:
Forman & Field is being introduced to HK consumers this time offering a large range of their select products:
London cure smoked salmon: Low in salt, this salmon is delicate, delicious and softly smoky.
Potted shrimp: The finest sweet shrimps are encased in clarified butter and an enticing blend of lemon balm and spring onion.
Potted lobster: The lobster is potted with lobster-infused butter and chives, and comes in a reusable kilner jar.
Mrs. King's pork pies from Melton Mowbray: This "Rural Capital of Food" is well known for its culinary specialties, being the home of the eponymous pork pie.
Scottish beef: The Aberdeen Angus breed is recognised throughout the world for its superior quality and Scotland is still renowned for producing some of the world's finest beef.
Neal's Yard Cheese specialises in British and Irish cheeses:
Montgomerys: Montgomery's Cheddar is king. This is one of the three truly traditional cheddars still to be made in the UK today. Rich and sweet with fruity, nutty and beefy flavours. The texture is drier than most other cheddars developing a grainy and crystalline crunch as it ages.
Blue Stilton: The Stilton is more traditional than any other cheese. The curd is hand-ladled before draining. This treats the curd more gently and preserves its structure, resulting in a luscious, creamy texture when fully mature. It has a rich, minerally tang and a buttery texture with a strong and full flavour without being sharp or overpowering.
Major focuses of ambient items:
Peter Rabbit Products: Peter Rabbit Organics is a London-based company aimed at providing parents with healthy, organic food containing no added salt, sugar or artificial ingredients to give to their children.
