How to register a marriage

In Hong Kong:

If you wish to marry in Hong Kong, please contact:

Marriage Registration and Records Office
3/F, Low Block Queensway Government Offices
66 Queensway, Hong Kong
Tel: (852) 2867 2787
Email: enquiry@immd.gov.hk
Website: www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/bdmreg_4.htm

It is not possible to register your marriage in Hong Kong with us, however we can arrange for your marriage certificate to be deposited with the General Register Office (GRO) in the United Kingdom. This not a legal obligation and has no bearing on the validity or otherwise of the marriage. It simply means that you are able to obtain a certified copy of your marriage certificate directly from the GRO, should you need to do so in the future. There is a charge for this service.

Outside Hong Kong:

If you wish to marry outside Hong Kong, but you are resident here, you may be required to submit a Notice of Intended Marriage to us. This should be done at least 21 days before you leave Hong Kong. The British Embassy or Consulate in the country where you are to be married will then provide you with a Certificate of No Impediment if it is required by the authorities there. This service cannot be completed in less than 21 days. There is a charge for this service.

In the United Kingdom:

If you wish to marry in the United Kingdom, please visit the General Register Office website (www.gro.gov.uk) for more information.
